Traditionally a messy scoop of grease is spread around the rim of the air filter to keep dust and dirt from sneaking its way past and into your precious internal engine components. In turn, grease gets all over the inside of your airbox and you have to clean out the excess grease that gets caked with dirt from your ride.
So how do you combat this dilemma? You have three choices: Take the risk and don't run any grease at all, run a rubber PC Racing air filter seal on the airbox itself or check out DT One Air Filters' new Super Seal filter.
The DT One filter offers a dual-foam design with a foam rubber seal around the rim of the filter. To achieve the full advantage of a greaseless seal, we had to completely clean the grease from one of our test bikes. Prepare the air filter as normal, but spare the task of dipping a finger in a tub of nappy grease. Installation was a breeze. The filter fit the stock filter cage and screwed into the airbox without a problem. After a dusty summer ride, we pulled the filter and found it kept the dust and grime out of the engine. The foam rubber seal passed the test with flying colors. The new DT One Super Seal filter is available for most late-model motocross and off-road bikes. |
